Heard from a friend that this audition was still held despite numerous flight cancellations due to ice. I'm certain many people couldn't travel to it like they had planned.

Chicago no hires their 4 open cello positions.
Who were the finalists in the later rounds? Even with a no-hire, it's impressive they made it that far and are very likely fantastic players!

All premiere military bands have need of high level drumset and concert playing. In the Field Bands case, whoever they hire will be in the concert band but also expected to sub into the jazz ambassadors as needed. Needs much more than a basic level on drum set in addition to a high level of concert playing. It’s tough to find that person, but they do exist.
No hire, finalists were Lucas Esposito and Jeff Saugerton

I seem to recall a number of no-hires for Principal Horn in this orchestra in years past, until they finally hired Jessica Danz in 2021. Wonder what the problem could be.

What string auditions are you referring to? I see two recent violin auditions with 6 trials total. Has there been a winner yet? I also know of someone recently denied tenure for one of those violin spots. You mention that no hires are probably due to “political/committee issues“… but who is on these committees?
No hire. At least 23 candidates in the preliminary round. 1 candidate advanced to a second round.
A friend told me that this one concluded in a no-hire yesterday. 9 finalists, 3 in super-finals, and there were apparently 3 positions available 🙃
