I’m told that two players received trials when auditions concluded this morning - Jennifer Montone and William Loveless.
This unfortunately ended in a no-hire. Jen dropped out of the audition process last minute, while Billy stayed

I heard that Patrick Walle (the acting Principal this season) won this audition.

I took this and I think it was a legit audition. The person autoadvanced is already a tenured member of the orchestra. He took it last time when it was a no hire. And took it again, and was given a trial. This does not indicate a shoe-in. Because they haven’t even offered him the position.
All that said, I do agree they could autoadvance to the semis to preserve some anonymity!
