So, you’ve won an audition. Do you negotiate your salary?

Of course, there are a variety of factors that could influence one’s decision. Is this a title chair or section? Core or per-service? Was the salary for this position listed on the audition advertisement?

Thanks for discussing.

Management will not hang the prospect of negotiating over your head--it's up to you to take the initiative. There may be clues in the CBA that leave the door open, eg. clauses to the effect of: "This contract does not preclude any musician from negotiating further salary or benefits." For what its worth, I successfully negotiated an overage increase and moving expenses for my tenure-track first job--it is possible. If you know your points of leverage and can put yourself in the shoes of management, you can calibrate your ask to make it reasonable and realistic.
