Eric Schweikert won this audition today. Heard that the other finalists were Jake Darnell (Huntsville Sym) and Brad Davis (Hawaii Sym). Eric has been acting in the role this season, and was runner up at the audition Jim Benoit won a few years ago.

I think the national round happened earlier this week. Anyone have news?

I heard that Matt Thomas (Malaysian Philharmonic) has recently been appointed timpanist of the Melbourne Symphony in Australia

Eugene Symphony hired three players at an audition on Sunday. Austin Cernosek won principal, and Jonas Koh & Tarun Bellar got section positions.

Heard this one was a no-hire today. 4 semifinalists, all hold positions with major US orchestras, and fun fact, 2 of them studied at CIM. None advanced to finals. This follows the Assistant Timpani audition in November, which also ended in a no-hire. Womp womp.

I heard Samantha Bennett won a position. Not sure if there were other winners as well or if it was just one spot

The Air Force Ceremonial Brass Band hired a few percussionists at their auditions yesterday - the names I heard are Pat Chapman and Christopher Baird, not sure if there are others too

A friend told me that this one concluded in a no-hire yesterday. 9 finalists, 3 in super-finals, and there were apparently 3 positions available 🙃 I saw the recent post that the Principal Trumpet audition last week also was a no-hire, and I mean ok, a titled brass chair is one thing, but section 2nd violin? With multiple positions open?

Five candidates participated in a screened final round earlier today, and three of them have been advanced to an orchestra round to be held at a later date.

Congrats to Robert O’Brien who won this position today! Rob is currently Principal Percussion of the Omaha Symphony. Other finalists include Marcelina Suchocka, David Yoon, and Tanner Tanieri.

David Riccobono won this audition today, congrats to him! He recently finished grad school at USC and also won this same position with the St Louis Symphony back in April . The runner up was Jay Ritchie of the Detroit Symphony and the other finalists were Jonathan Wisner and Wesley Sumpter.

Yesterday Hirofumi Tanaka won this audition. He went to Rice and I believe he now plays in the Tucson Symphony.

Zubin Hathi won this job. He went to Curtis and then CIM. Congrats!

Aaron Smith won this position last week. He went to Indiana and Rice and is currently principal in Boise Phil.
