They seem to have trouble hiring people in general, but yes their recent Associate Principal bassoon audition resulted in a no hire after one trial was given. The list for that audition was extremely long, probably the longest and most obscure list I've ever seen in my 20+ auditions. They were very selective with resumes and made most people do prescreening videos, thus there were apparently only 15 people at the prelims. I showed up for my prelim 45 minutes early, and they showed me to a tiny practice room which I waited in for nearly 2.5 hours before being led to the stage (they were at least an hour behind.) I did not play my best. But after all that wait, plus all the travel and costs associated, plus them only having 15 prelim candidates to hear, I was pretty shocked to get cut off after 4 of my 8 excerpts. That was the first time I've been cut off in an audition. Left a sour taste in my mouth.
