Interested in performing with the New World Symphony without applying for a fellowship?

NWS offers musicians the opportunity to apply for placement on our substitute list only, separate from the fellowship application process. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

The substitute list application will remain open until July 31, 2026.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should submit:

2–3 minutes of a solo work, or the exposition of a standard concerto AND four contrasting orchestral excerpts of your choice

Excerpts may be selected freely and do not need to come from NWS’s posted repertoire lists. The repertoire lists on the NWS website apply to fellowship applicants only.

Please note that some instruments have specific requirements or exceptions, which are detailed on Acceptd.

RESULTS AND SUBSTITUTE LIST STATUS

Applicants will be notified by email as soon as possible after submission. If invited to join the NWS substitute list, your status will remain active for 12 months from the date results are emailed.

NWS maintains a limited substitute pool. Musicians on the list may be called to serve as additional personnel for larger works or to replace NWS musicians who are taking time off during the season.
