All applicants must be able to demonstrate U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S. at the audition. In accordance with the Lexington Philharmonic Collective Bargaining Agreement, all rounds of the audition will be conducted behind a screen. COMPENSATION:
LexPhil is a per service orchestra. During the 2024-2025 season a Section Cello position is guaranteed a minimum of 28 services at the per service rate of $102.41. Rates and service guarantees for subsequent seasons are determined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT: Partial travel/housing reimbursements are given to musicians living outside of Lexington, KY. We reimburse $0.35 per mile driven, for up to 220 miles (round trip). We also provide a $70 stipend for overnight accommodations for days that you stay in Lexington. CONCERT CYCLE SCHEDULE: For a typical concert cycle, we rehearse 4 days (Tuesday through Friday, 7:30 - 10pm) with a concert on Saturday @ 7:30pm.
REQUIRED:
● Excellent professional orchestral playing abilities and recent orchestral experience
● Commitment to delivering a very high standard of work
● Knowledge and appreciation of symphonic & chamber repertoire and repertoire of other genres
● Effective and committed team player, playing an active role in the Lexington Philharmonic beyond performances
● A proven commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA), as well as an understanding of how these values contribute to an organization’s success and sustainability
● Excellent communication - Including but not limited to prompt responses to emails, phone calls, etc. and preemptive communication regarding schedule, contracts, etc.
● Eager to reimagine the role of an orchestra in the 21st century and engage in the transformation
● Actively develops positive working relationships with musician colleagues, administrative staff, and the larger central Kentucky community
