Symphony Nova Scotia (Holly Mathieson, Music Director) announces the following vacancy:

PRINCIPAL VIOLA

(tenure-track position)

International auditions will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

Salary & Benefits

• Starting Date: September 2025, or an earlier mutually agreed-upon date

• 2023/24 Weekly Salary: $1,317.73

• 2023/24 Season Length: 36 weeks, including 2 weeks paid vacation

• Benefits: 7% Musicians’ Pension Fund contribution, Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance, cost-shared Group Health Insurance Plan, paid sick leave, relocation allowance. The current Collective Bargaining Agreement is in effect until June 30, 2024. Negotiations are currently underway for a new agreement.

An offer of employment to the Principal Viola audition winner is contingent on the successful completion of a two-week trial period, tentatively scheduled for October 22-31, 2024 (subject to audition winner’s availability). The Symphony Nova Scotia Audition Committee reserves the right to dismiss at any time any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards at this audition. Successful applicants will be required to become members of the Atlantic Federation of Musicians, Local 571 CFM. If this position is won by a current member of Symphony Nova Scotia, the resulting vacancy may be offered to another candidate.
