The New World Symphony (NWS), America’s Orchestral Academy, is seeking an Orchestra Library Fellow for the 2026–27 season. Based at the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center in Miami Beach, NWS prepares emerging professionals for careers in orchestras and the wider classical music field.

This fellowship is intended for someone committed to becoming a performance librarian with a professional orchestra, ensemble, university, or conservatory. The selected Fellow will gain the daily experience, mentorship, and practical skills needed to compete for a professional library position.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN AND DO

Working closely with the Music Library Director, orchestra musicians, conductors, guest artists, and NWS staff, the Library Fellow will gain experience in all aspects of operating a busy orchestra library, including:

- Preparing, marking, editing, and distributing orchestral music
- Supporting rehearsals, performances, conductors, and guest artists
- Managing music-library administration and daily operations
- Coordinating with artistic, production, and administrative teams
- Using music notation and engraving software
- Responding to the changing needs of a professional performance schedule

The Fellow will also have opportunities to work with NWS Artistic Director Stéphane Denève and internationally recognized visiting conductors and artists.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

- Bachelor’s degree in music
- Previous orchestra-library experience
- Ability to read music in multiple clefs
- Knowledge of orchestral instruments and transpositions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm, collaborative, and productive under pressure
- Flexibility to work the hours required by rehearsals and performances
- Ability to take direction and respond positively to feedback

Preferred:

- Strong working knowledge of music notation, engraving, or editing software
