I've heard from multiple sources that Naples Philharmonic drug tests their employees. Why? I believe it would make them the only (non-military) orchestra that drug tests. Does anyone have any more info on this?
I'm told that members of the orchestra are only drug-tested upon their initial hire, not as an ongoing protocol. Could be something to do with on-campus workplace insurance. Yes it's unsusual but it's helpful to remember that the Naples Phil is one part of a broader cultural institution called Artis-Naples, which includes a museum and offers an array of community and education programming. They are likely obligated to operate under the hiring procedures of their parent organization.
