It was a master plan by the former king to get one of his disciples on the throne: A huge rep list, the requirement to play German and the surprise excerpts at the last minute were part of the plan so the right lineage would succeed.

German system, meaning the lowest drum is on the right instead of the left. They have a tradition of playing this way in Cleveland so it shouldn’t be too surprising they required candidates to also play German. Certainly wouldnt suggest the audition was rigged because of that …..
